Grill Oven

Can I “grill” meats in the oven using the broil feature?
I am sitting in 2 feet of snow and NO GRILL. I LOVE grilled food. Is it possible to even SORT OF get that grilled effect in the oven?
Yes you can, but you need to keep a close eye on it, because like everyone else says, the broiler works fast.
When I want a good piece of meat, but it is below freezing outside, I usually sear it in a cast iron skillet over high heat for 30 seconds on each side, then finish it in a 500 degree oven for 5 minutes. Make sure the oven is pre-heated, and the pan is ripping hot before you put the meat in. This method works pretty well for a 3/4 to 1 inch steak, and it comes out medium-rare. You don’t get the smoky flavor or the grill marks, but it’s still a pretty good steak.
